IUPUI Office of Community Engagement works in concert with neighborhood partners, residents, and stakeholders to raise the quality of life for those living in the Near West neighborhood of Indianapolis. To do this, we build relationships in the community and partner with the neighborhood associations of Haughville, Hawthorne, Stringtown, and We Care to organize themselves into entities that have the ability to represent the interests of the community and the residents within.
We act as a resource multiplier for the associations by coordinating between the neighborhoods, attending their meetings to hear their concerns, and offering advice and insight. We also assist in marketing the neighborhoods through a monthly newsletter, construction and maintenance of the Near West website, and providing materials necessary to structure and conduct meetings such as bylaws, agendas, and minutes.
On October 18, 2017 at Christamore House the residents of Haughville, Hawthorne, Stringtown, and We Care, came together with public servants and government officials in a Town Hall meeting. Read more about the Town Hall meeting in the October 2017 Near West side newsletter here.
