The Showcase began with a Poster Session at 3:00 pm in which 32 students, faculty, and community partners highlighted various community-campus engagement activities that have demonstrated impact on community issues and deepened student learning. A reception and awards ceremony followed. During the ceremony seven community-engagement honorees were recognized and the IUPUI Global Engagement award was awarded.
Other honorees who were recognized were:
- 2016 Charles R. Bantz Chancellor’s Community Fellowship – Dr. Paul Mullins and Dr. Susan Hyatt
- 2016 Charles R. Bantz Chancellor’s Community Scholar – Dr. Richard Holden and Dr. Nicole Fowler
- Applicants for the 2017 Charles R. Bantz Chancellor’s Community Fellowship were announced
- 2017 IUPUI Global Engagement Award – Parosweb from Parsos, Greece
- 2016 Chancellor’s Faculty Award for Excellence in Civic Engagement – Mr. Todd Saxton
- 2016 Chancellor’s Community Award for Excellence in Civic Engagement – Burmese Community Center for Education
- 2016 Nan Bohan Community Engagement Award – Ms. Pamela Clark
The William M. Plater Civic Engagement Medallion was then bestowed upon 50 graduating students from 16 different schools. The Plater Civic Engagement Medallion is designed to honor graduating IUPUI students who have shown an exemplary commitment to their communities over the course of their academic careers and who have developed an ethic of civic mindedness.

The Robert G. Bringle Civic Engagement Showcase is named in honor of Dr. Robert G. Bringle, an internationally known leader in the field of service learning. He created a lasting impact on campus as the first Executive Director of the IUPUI Center for Service and Learning and as a Chancellor’s Professor of Psychology and Philanthropic Studies.
